|| холодный фронт || The scene is backstage at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington. The final few crew members are finishing their tasks, loading the last pieces of gear into the remaining truck before heading out for the evening. Management, talent, and all other staff are gone with their collective minds focussed towards the next event.
All but one.
Vitoly Volkov sits in the locker room, his face caked with the dry blood from his encounter with Ashe Corvin earlier in the evening. Volkov is still in his gear, his eyes fixated on the ground. The God Tier appears to be in a trance, one of contemplation and silent rage. His eyes dart upwards and he stares through the screen at you.
“The God Tier is no errand boy.”
Volkov stands and kicks the chair away, sending it clear across the room where it collides with the wall and leaves a large dent.
“Vitoly has played this role in the past, yes. But Vitoly was a boy then, Vitoly was inexperienced. Vitoly needed to prove himself to his superiors and he did so in the only way Vitoly knew how which was unmitigated destruction. Not only of the body but of the mind. Vitoly did not kill people but he made them pray for the cold embrace of death. Death is final, there is nothing after death but to find yourself in a place where all you want is to cease to exist...well putting someone there is truly destroying them.”
Volkov wipes some of the crusted blood from his face and it turns into red dust in the air.
“Godless you want Vitoly to be the punisher? You want Vitoly to be your red right hand? Fine. But as Vitoly said, he is no errand boy. You want Vitoly to make an example of those who choose to defy you and Vitoly is fine with that, but that will come at a cost. A cost that is very obvious. You kept Vitoly out of the Wideawake Tournament. You kept Vitoly away from championships. When Vitoly strikes down your number one contender with extreme prejudice you will give Vitoly what he wants and you will do it quickly. If you want to treat The God Tier like a mad dog that can you sic on those who upset you then you best be willing to reward him properly, lest this mad dog turn its snarl in your direction.”
The God Tier almost smirks which is about as close to a smile as you will ever see from the Russian Dreadnought.
“You get some time to consider what that means Godless because your headache is not my primary concern at this moment. My primary concern is The Infinity Warrior. Privjet Gospodin Moss, allow Vitoly the opportunity to speak softly to you. Moss, Vitoly has no issue with you as a man. You seem like a finely tuned athlete, one that is poised to do great things in Elysium. Congratulations. But you must be forewarned that it is going to take some time. No doubt Godless had big plans for you, you possess every facet of what he covets in a champion. Unfortunately for you he has placed you in a contest against Vitoly and more than that, a very angry Vitoly. No amount of high altitude training has prepared you for Kholodnyy Front.”
Volkov reaches into the gym bag that lays at his feet. After a moment of searching its contents, he pulls out a small leather bound notebook and a ball point pen. He sketches in silence for a few moments. His face relaxes as he sketches, every so often he turns his head slightly to get a new perspective. Once he has had a few moments to calm himself he looks up and continues speaking.
“As we speak a chill is overcoming you Moss. It has started in your toes and as we inch ever closer to our meeting in Portland it will creep up your lower extremities. You will arrive at the arena and you will feel it in your stomach, you will be putting on your boots and you will feel it in your fingers, you will walk out onto the stage and you will feel it in your chest, and finally you will stand across the ring from The God Tier and you will feel it in your heart. You will be paralyzed by the inevitability of your demise.”
Volkov continues sketching but he also continues speaking.
“Vitoly has destroyed three of the Original Eight so far. He is taking a detour for the next month, first stopping to give you the first blemish on your record and then to do the same to the imposter. Vitoly has been the most unrelenting force in Elysium since the day that he signed his contract. The Kholodnyy Front will continue you to sweep over the last kingdom of professional wrestling and there is nothing that The Infinity Warrior or anyone else can do to keep the fires of hope lit.”
Volkov tears the page out of the book and tosses it on the ground. He collects his bag and exits the frame. The camera looks down to show a rough but impressive ink drawing...a portrait of The Infinity Warrior wearing an expression of absolute dread.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “The Very Bottom”---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here I stand, a man unshaken by one hell of a night. I knew my debut match with Elysium was going to be intense, but I had no idea I would experience the highest of highs and lowest of lows in that kind of rapid succession. What a rush. Some people might not understand, but I loved the thrill of it. The thrill is my primary reason for doing this. Most of the time it is the reason I do anything in my life. But on this night I found victory, I stood face to face with competition, and never for a second did I question myself for getting involved in this crazy business.
I was just wondering when I would get to do it all again.
First things first. Wyatt showed up and we put on a show for the Elysium fans. He couldn’t match my pace or energy that night, but he showed some fight and I applaud his effort. I’ll give respect to anyone who steps between the ropes and has what it takes to throw down like we did. Wyatt didn’t back down and hopefully he turns things around in his future. Maybe we will meet again sometime, but either way I was able to get my first match under my belt against a game opponent. Everything was all good.
But, my victory celebration was cut a little short.
You see, there is a certain kind of person that I don’t share the same sort of respect for. Instead of going through the proper channels and laying out a challenge like a real competitor, I was jumped backstage by a F.M. Young.
This was a random, unprovoked, and psychotic attack from someone I thought I could trust. The only explanation I can think of is jealousy. If you listen to what she said to me that night, it doesn’t seem too difficult to figure out. She is starving for a win so badly in this company that she’s resorted to attacking people after their matches just to try and create some buzz for herself. Good for you, Young. Seems a little weak to me, but if that’s all you have to work with I guess you have to run with it. Simple warning, F.M., keep playing with fire and something tells me your bad luck is guaranteed to continue.
The most insane part about all of this is that she didn’t just attack me, but she tried to take me out for good. She fully intended to send me a message and prevent me from ever coming back. From that point on, this situation became a lot more serious, for both of us. It took me a little while to realize what exactly had happened, but once I was made aware of everything backstage...I knew I couldn’t just let it go and wait to catch Young down the road. I knew I had to be proactive about the situation. If she’s set on trying to end my career, I am going to come at her with the same intent. We will see which one of us is left standing in the end.
So once I settled down, I spoke to management about getting a match with her down the road. They were interested in this idea, so I was granted my opportunity for revenge. Los Angeles seems like the perfect spot in my mind. This will be a satisfying homecoming for me when I beat Young from pillar to post in my backyard. It didn’t take very long to escalate to this level, but I promise that only one of us is walking out of that match. I might not be an asshole, but I am still a warrior. When someone is looking to end me, my instincts kick in and I’ll fight until I can’t anymore.
You missed your one and only opportunity, Young. You should have taken me out when you had the chance. Now you left me breathing and we have to settle this. You put yourself in a very dangerous position. With each match I have my level of experience and confidence will rise. By the time we meet for battle, I’ll be a terrifying man.
Now that I think of it, I’m starting to feel more and more dangerous by each passing minute. There is something to this life that changes you. I think about my upcoming match and opponent for Frontline and my entire perspective has changed. My next opponent is an established name in Elysium. Vitoly Volkov. The name seems a little too obvious for my liking, but I’m not here to judge that. Truth is, I don’t know much about this man other than what I have heard him say and I really believe that told me everything I’ll need to know.
In other words, this guy isn’t very difficult to figure out.
Volkov, listening to you talk about anything makes me nervous for the average level of intelligence in our world. Seriously, I have to ask...are you alright, man? Have you been cleared to compete in a business like this? Can you compete in something like this and consciously consent to what's about to happen to you? Because I can't help but feel that I'm taking advantage of someone with an obvious mental handicap. No joke.
And don't think I'm trying to insult you or make fun of you in anyway. That's not my style. I'm generally concerned about the current condition of your brain and what a match with me could potentially lead to. I'm a very dangerous striker and I hit hard. Just ask Wyatt. I'm not sure if you saw my first match, but I don't miss either. You might be a deadly force that’s able to go off at any moment, but I’m that perfect headshot that always kills before the boom.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Peace of Mind”--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Kevin sits on his favorite beach in Santa Barbara, California. The sun is just starting to rise and Kevin is in deep meditation. His breathing is perfectly measured and he’s approaching zen. He is listening to the sounds of water, moving gently towards the shore. He exhales, his mind a place of peace.]Maybe I was a bit harsh with Volkov. Perhaps he’s just suffering from a nasty case of delusion and not some sort of mental handicap. I really don’t know what to make of him. Anyone that refers to himself in the third person and calls himself “The God Tier” obviously has an incorrect grasp on reality. If he truly thinks he is some sort of unstoppable force that has no equal, well then I think he’s in for a rude awakening. Nobody in this business is unbeatable. Especially in a company like this. It would serve him well to learn that sooner rather than later. I can’t relate to his thought process at all. Having that sort of a complex is foreign to me.
There’s also his perception of me. There is not a chance in a hell that I fear him. Fear is a feeling that I am unfamiliar with. “The Infinity Warrior” is not afraid to step into battle with anyone. In fact, I live for the challenge. I know there are dangerous men walking around, but that will never prevent me from facing an obstacle. In my life, I have put myself through incredible struggle, just to test myself and see what I’m made of. Granted, I haven’t faced the same hurdles that others have, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t worked for everything that I have earned.
Don’t read too much into things, Volkov. You have no right to believe that Godless thinks of you as some type of monster or rabid dog. It’s clear to me that he recognizes your ability and wants to reward you for that. Fact is, he’s not wrong. Every time I have watched you compete I have been impressed with what you can do. But don’t overestimate your skills. Godless has been around this sport long enough and he’s seen tons of guys like you. You’ve got the intensity. You’ve got the power, but there are also moments when you inexperience shines through. Even if you rip me apart at Frontline, I’m still going to show you something. Learn from it. That’s the same message I send to all of my opponents. You’re going to sweat and you’re going to get hit. Regardless of the outcome, don’t throw away the opportunity to better yourself from this experience.
I have shown throughout my entire career that I only need to land one clean shot. The Forever Blast is the type of move that can put any man down for the count. I know you consider yourself to be a God, but trust me, if I connect at the right time you will bleed like anyman. Along with my speed and striking technique, my other advantage going into this fight is limitless heart. That might not mean much to a man as cold as you seem to be, but it’s carried me through a lot of difficult matches during my competitive career. That’s why I became a double champion. It wasn’t luck and I was handed anything. I showed up to work everyday and refused to stay down. Letting others see my mortality might be a weakness to you, but I’m just being honest about the reality we all face.
Be prepared for the fight of your career. Don’t buy into your own line of bullshit and think that I am afraid to face “The God Tier,” because I’m not. The heart of “The Infinity Warrior” will beat strong when I step between the ropes. There will be no doubt or dread in my mind. If things start to get out of hand, I’ll look to the fans to elevate me again. You probably don’t think they can offer you anything in the moment of battle, but I know that it is possible. I have felt the light of the people on several occasions and found the strength to push on. That’s why I do what I do. I will never stop fighting for the people and rallying for our cause. I will not shake. I will not falter. I will not give in to intimidation.
[Kevin opens his eyes, the sun no slightly higher in the sky. He can hear the sounds of birds in the distance and he smiles to himself. This is a regular part of Kevin’s match preparation. Along with intense physical training, he always makes sure to spend enough time getting his mind right. It’s always important to enter battle with a clear mind. He exhales again and gets up, grabbing his towel off of the sand.]
When it is all said and done, I’ll get back up to my feet. I will wipe the sweat or the blood from my face and I will extend my hand to you. Prove to the world that you possess some amount of integrity and accept my hand in respect. Because regardless of what I’ve said, I do see great things in your future, but not if you continue down this path. Win or lose, there will always be an open invitation for you to come to Big Bear and evolve your game at my training facility. F.M. Young might not realize it yet, but she has improved by leaps and bounds since putting in the time with me. Her only issue is the influence in her ear. I don’t see that with you. Even though we might not agree on life, it’s obvious you are a man of conviction. Your confidence might come off as delusion, but I can see through it. Take the first step in getting on the right track. Learn something about yourself. Learn something about being a man.
