“There’s no such thing as eternity.”
“Even for me, a being of the highest order.”There was trouble in the kingdom, SHIDO’s realm of existence. The atmosphere was tainted by his own dormant anger. The statues with their eyes blocked out to the world remained, but they were challenged by the happenings inside of his Paradise. The distortions, as its very existence, in reality, was threatened, were more hostile than ever before. When Paradise faded, it did so violently, with static and tremors coursing throughout. Pieces of the walls and roof trickled down to the ground, shattering upon impact. Sitting upon his egocentric throne, SHIDO held his head tightly with both hands. He looked up at the camera, dragging his tightened fingers down his face. “Godless, you want to take away what I’ve earned from me. You let Lacklan and Holland have their way with you and make their own destiny. To anyone else, to the Volkov, to the Corvin, this is fine. To me, SHIDO…” SHIDO stopped, looking around his environment, “you can see where my frustration lies. You have denied me what I want. Furthermore, you have pitied me against the so-called unstoppable God Tier. Do you want to know what has happened to me since?”“Look around me. Look upon my Paradise. It doesn’t like what you’ve done. These mantles, they exist to hold my trophies and my accolades,” he pointed furiously at the statues, forever longing for something to hold, “these disruptions, THIS is all a farce made to make something worse out of me. I’ve beaten your Uprising and I’ve beaten the Rage Demon. I will defeat the Blasphemous at Hallowed Ground, but there lies one challenge before that.”“Johnny boy, don’t think I haven’t noticed you.”What appears to be a sliver of a grin appeared on SHIDO’s face before another distortion made for a transition past that. Before he began to speak again, SHIDO’s scowl showed how he truly felt on the matter. “The Eternal? Is that meant to make me gasp? Is that supposed to make me quake in my boots? Eternity doesn’t exist, and even if it did, what is there to fear? That concept doesn’t pose to make someone like me stiffen up like some frivolous child.”
“Eternity means you have lasted through the century, but to what end? Does eternity make you strong? Does immortality make you a threat?”“No.”
“Eternity means you seek to insult me. You drag yourself to this match against me, seeking to make me falter. Trip me up, as some would say. With all these eons of experience, you’ll see it as something easy. With all this time spent wandering through life, you’ve probably seen someone like me. That’s what you’ll believe. You’ll believe that all these you’ve obtained throughout your endless journey will prepare you for SHIDO.”
“Jonathan, you’re nothing more to me than a shock value appearance.”SHIDO grimaced. “You could be this destroyer of man, the portrait that Ashe Corvin painted for us that did not know you,” a beat, “but you haven’t been. What you have been is someone that doesn’t know when to…’shut the fuck up’, as you stated.”
“Time begets bravado, especially in this business. The ego that you built up cannot be dashed, at least not easily. It has transformed since then into this complex where anyone that is still in their career infancy cannot say such offensive things to you. Like a baby boomer to a millennial You’ll go through your archives of the previous times you’ve dealt with ‘my kind’. All because of that inflated, aged mentality.”The loud ticking of a grandfather clock rang out. The pendulum swung back and forth as SHIDO arched his neck side to side, getting a satisfying pop out of each joint. “Kristopher was able to put a stop to that, but he has a few months experience."
“SHIDO is a fledging in the grand scheme of things, or at least that’s how it would seem to you. I assume that’s why I was given this match. Can the upstart defeat the veteran? That’s how the story paints itself.”More distortions came, more violent in nature. SHIDO didn’t even flinch, merely lolling his tongue in his mouth. A derisive chuckle came out of him, amidst the probable destruction of his setting. “If that’s how the story paints itself, we need a new writer and a new artist. Because that painting sucks.”
“You see, Cage, you might see me as the warm up to your war with Corvin. I can tell you that I don’t see you as that, a warm up. No, I have an individual, pinpoint focus on you, one that cannot be broken. Why, you might find yourself asking?”
“I don’t see anything but you, Cage, despite what happened to me.”
“I see a man that’s ready to go to war, but he doesn’t notice the lion coming at his throat.”
“Godless has started to push my buttons and he took something away from me. So, as the young child that I am, I will throw my tantrum now. Unfortunately, mine are a lot more gruesome. I don’t throw my toys around or scream as loud as I can. I break things.”
“I will break everything that Godless puts in front of me until I get my way.”
“But you shouldn’t worry about that. For you, Cage, I’ve decided that I have a reason why I’m going to break you. It’s not just because of what Godless did to me.”“Since my words cannot reach you, I must take physical action to stop you. I’m doing you a favor when I make sure you cannot make it to Hallowed Ground.”
“Old men shouldn’t go to war.”

My daughter, my lovely daughter.
I understand what you must be going through being stuck in the middle of this growing storm between Ashe and myself. I had to be stuck in the middle of arguing parents along with your uncles with their now ex-wives. But to accept a match on my behalf was a bit of dick move don’t you think? I know you want this thing to end, baby girl. You should’ve come to me before making that decision. Am I mad at you?
No.
I would’ve accepted Ashe’s challenge anyway. Because like you, Cheyenne, I also want this thing to end between the two of us. I’ve come to realize that I’m wasting my time holding this grudge and it’s starting to weigh on my mind all the time. It’s effecting my matches and causing me to lose a step. I never thought I’d lose a step in the ring. But that tends to happen as time goes by. You either step your game up or leave it all behind.
I’m not leaving anytime soon.
Which brings me to this week and my return to the ring. Apparently, I’ve been noticed by SHIDO. My my, how exciting for me. I guess he hasn’t been paying attention to the last three show of this program. If he had, he would’ve noticed me a long time ago. That’s ok though because it’s the past and it’s behind us now. Now some of your claims are a little bit out there aren’t they? I don’t expect people to be scared of me. I couldn’t care less to be honest with you.
I didn’t start calling myself “The Eternal.” It was everyone else who started that nickname and I just went with it. It has nothing to do with immortality because I know that we all will meet our maker one day. I think the name has to do with my longevity in this business and how I’m still doing it after all the shit I put my body through in my career. So yeah, the fact that I’m still here does create that “shock value” that you mentioned.
And yes, I am the Destroyer of Man. Have I proven that since I’ve been here, no, I haven’t. So the fuck what? I guess that the generation that you come from with the expectation of instant gratification. Did you think that I’m going to show up here and immediately start dropping bodies? If you did then you’re dumber than I made you out to be. I don’t see anyone as a stepping stone just like I don’t come in and start dropping bodies off the rip. I guess you’ve never heard of the phrase, “bide your time.”
Yes, I’m one of those guys that doesn’t know when to shut the fuck up. And from what I’ve seen since I’ve been here, neither do you. No matter how smooth you talk, you’re here because, just like everyone else here, you don’t know how to shut the fuck up. Yet, I see that your talking is causing ol’ Kelly to take notice of you. You claim that he’s doing things to hold you back but SHIDO, I wouldn’t fuck with Godless if I were you. Because the funny thing about history is that if you don’t learn from it, you’re doomed to repeat it.
This man has hanged people for doing stupid shit like what you’re doing. But don’t say I didn’t warn you, SHIDO.
Now I don’t see you as a warmup for Ashe. Every opponent is a completely different animal and to see one as a warmup for another would be stupid. Yet, I think that’s what you’re seeing despite your words to the contrary. You don’t see Jonathan Cage, you see Kelly Godless and you want to break “me” to show “him.” Your clouded mind is what’s going to get you hurt.
But you knew that already didn’t you?
Come to Frontline with that type of mindset and the bravado that you’re not looking past me. It’ll get you kicked in the face and then dropped on your head. And as you stare up into the lights, I’m going stand over you with my arms in the air in victory.
Not bad for an old man, huh?

“You’re pacing yourself before you start ‘ripping up bodies’?”
“You haven’t done anything that you’ve used to do?”
“EXCUSES!”“These are all worthless excuses on why you couldn’t keep up! A liar, a charlatan! You’re unworthy of the name ‘Eternal,'” a beat, “You’re lucky, that’s all. A foot away from paralysis, an inch away from death. You’re a collection of close moments that make up your false legacy! You ruined that for yourself. You unveiled the secret, took away the smoke and mirrors, and now you’ve shown me just another geriatric bastard!” SHIDO’s Paradise was in shambles now. Pieces of the flooring were gone, opening tears to whatever other dimension laid outside of the boundary. The statues were fashioned differently, holding their heads in agony. SHIDO sat on his throne, clutching his head, albeit out of raw fury. He struggled to maintain it; he showed this by dragging his hands down his face, digging his fingernails into his flesh. “Johnny Boy, I’m upset now. I’m not commonly one to lose my cool at things like what you’ve said, but there’s a particular thing that has me more out of sorts. It’s not your words on how you’re taking your time or whatever. No, that’s laughable, but it’s the matter of your exclamations of my views of you.”
“I see you as Godless? And I should be careful about Godless?”
SHIDO snickered, not calmly, not melodically. Everything about SHIDO was unhinged at the moment. Whatever cool, reserved person that stepped in Elysium did not exist. At least not now. “My mind is clear. On what will happen at Hallowed Ground. What will happen to Godless if he does continue to throw rocks into my path?”
A beat. “On this match. On you. Especially on you.”“You’re an idiot, it seems. A full-blown fool that needs to get executed. Defending Godless isn’t the issue here, sure, you’re familiar with him. I get that. It’s that you believe that I saw you as him, but then you continue to sing his praises. I should fear a noose around my neck, when I’m the one with it in my hand?!”
“You better believe now that this noose in my hands is reserved for yours.”“I want to crush your throat,” SHIDO motioned for this by squeezing an open hand shut. “I’m going to wrap the noose so tightly around your neck that it cuts off that voice and no one gets to hear your lies anymore. I wanted to spare you that because you’re due for another war, but now, I’m taking an executive order with you.”
“Execution. In front of everyone. Everyone that hates you and everyone who loves you.”“I’ve noticed you, Cage! I’ve ALWAYS noticed you. I’m ashamed of you, that’s all. I didn’t have to speak about you until now because of what you’ve said to me. I expected you to be the Destroyer of Man. I don’t want to fight a man who mistakes his lethargy for patience, but since you’re before me, I will,” SHIDO chuckled, “and I don’t waste my time playing games with those who stand in my way. Despite my want to fight what people named ‘The Eternal,' I got this...I got someone who realized his mortality."“In all my rage, I’ll silence a man who is wasting his time, his limited time. You should come at me as hard as you possibly can since you don’t have long in this business to do this. You have all these exploits that I’ll take advantage of, and you’re just admitting them to me. I’m not speaking of your physical ailments and scars. Those are things you’ll have to deal with. When your body is breaking apart through the war you think you want, and you’ll pray to whoever can help you.”“Pray to your daughter; she’ll help you. At least, help you take the damage I’m giving to you. This is SHIDO’s gracious education to you, old dog. I’m teaching you why you shouldn’t step on cracks in my Paradise. When this--” he motioned all around him, which caused a distortion. The statues now hung low, still clutching their heads. Their faces contorted worse into the frozen pain they were experiencing. “When all of this falls to pieces, I have no more restrictions. I have nothing more than the unbridled fury that NO ONE in Elysium can fathom. Not even The Rage Demon can process the essence of my existence, my wrathful existence.” “Welcome to it all, Cage.”
Another distortion that previewed the Paradise that was once intact. Within an instant, it vanished for the macabre setting where SHIDO sat. “Usually, I wouldn’t invite people like yourself here, but I made the mistake of sending the invitation before I heard your reply.” “This is a place where only Gods play. Elysium is where they come to fight for supremacy, but I’ve come to find myself disappointed.”
“Depressed, even.”
“I guess it’s up to me. It’s up to SHIDO to try to reshape this place into what it’s meant to be. This match will help me. The visualization of SHIDO, the rightful number one contender, the heir apparent, dismantling a man that was once a destroyer.”
“I invited a mortal to come fight me.”
“Why was I so blind?”
SHIDO laughed heartily, dragging his hand through his silver hair. He looked down at his hands wearily. “I must thank you for guiding me, Cage.”
“Now, take this...your death. Hand delivered and custom made.”
“And since you’re so inclined to defend him, why don’t you prepare Godless’ place in Hell too?”
“I’m sending him there to meet you too...one day.”
