The first shot that the video opened to was one that Elysium watchers knew well but had not seen in a while. The statues of the World Champion’s domain had their face covered, an act born from the misery of abandonment. Their champion, their ruler, their God had graced them with his presence. Instead, they were left in desolation and darkness, unable to do their requested purpose. With no God to hail, their world was empty, which wasn’t unlike the world of Elysium Pro. Nevertheless, a single light grazed the statues, leading to a distortion. Their stone hands crawled away from their faces, where disbelief took over the perpetual sadness.
The shot moved closer to the throne that sat in the center of the universe. Another video distortion occurred, which led to the room being filled with not the usual cast of statues, but a full-fledged choir. Lined along the walls, they looked strangely similar in build to the many people who filled the roster of Elysium Pro. They were all kneeling to the throne as the loyal peons of SHIDO’s Paradise. Above the throne, a prismatic staircase began to descend. When it reached its intended end in front of the throne, a polychromatic light encompassed the top of the stairs, taking a circular shape as it did. When it burst upon impact, pillars of similar light began to flood the room.
Stepping down from the heavens above, the Elysium World Champion made his appearance for the first time since the company’s hiatus. His words about discarding his old physique were true, no longer standing as the white-haired androgynous model. His hair was jet black, its natural color and he had put on some muscle. Yet, SHIDO still held onto his ostentatious sense of style. Dressed in an all-white suit with a shining platinum tie, the champion accessorized with a glistening cape that he threw out of his way. His elegant descent brought him to his throne soon enough and he took the World Championship from one of the offering statues.
“Oh, is it good to be back home,” SHIDO stated, sitting down, “better yet it’s good to say once again that I’m the Elysium World Champion.”
“After I vanquished that dirty bastard, Holland, and removed that Mathis fool from existence, I spent too much time wondering when my next contender was going to appear. The Summit Series almost solved that. It entertained me enough. It let me sit around and watch the common folk compete for my attention. It didn’t matter in the end. The 'valiant' winner of that series would have gone on to the biggest show of them all only to lose to me.”
“This tournament? This is just the Summit Series expedited for yours truly. There are nine people stepping onto the big stage for the first time here in Elysium. Sadly, for them, the fate of the world was sealed with a stroke of beautiful cursive. When the World Champion decided to come back, the World Championship knew where it had to be--right around this lovely waist of mine,” the champion let out a haughty laugh, “welcome back to Elysium Pro, everyone. It’s time for everyone to get a reminder of who is the best there is here.”
SHIDO tapped on his chin for a moment, “as a matter of fact, I get to handle so many problems in one dash.”
“I can prove I’m the best champion in Elysium, the one-man Tag Team Champion, the future Union Battleground Champion, and that a student should betray their teacher,” SHIDO rattled off before shrugging, “I could have done all that in a few months’ time, but this will do. I have questions for the newcomers, though.”
“Do any of you know who I am?”
“I am the undefeated and the undefeatable. I’m the king of the fucking world that took everything he wanted. I’m the handsome devil that makes messes out of idiots and tragedies out of heroes. I’m the Elysium World Champion and I ask you what you think you’re doing getting in my way? It’s not that I dislike the challenge. I always love to find new people to embarrass, but I wonder what makes people want to test me for themselves?”
“I get the veterans. Thanks to Finale and Godless whispering sweet nothings in their ears for so long, they think they’re the ones that’ll finally be the answer to the SHIDO problem. That’s an illness that I can only fix by stomping them and their hopeless dreams into the ground,” SHIDO rolled his eyes, “but for all of you? Didn’t you see the highlights? Don’t you know what I’m capable of? Isn’t that enough to keep you away from the damage that I’ll cause to you just for being here?”
“Of course it isn't,” the champion snickered, “that’s the thing about idiots, both old and new. Everyone thinks that they’re the protagonist. They want to dream me up as the villain or, worse, someone who can’t get in the way of their destiny."
"I think everyone going to different federations might have made that problem worse.”
“Now it’s up to the Edge of Reality to wake you up from this dream that all of you got addicted to. You might have done well out there in the world, but here in the Elysian Fields? You all forgot what the deal is.”
“I’m the champ and everyone wishes they could take that away from me.”
SHIDO stood up to the audience before him, brandishing his cape for effect.
“Elysium faithful, your World Champion, your King, your God, is back!”
The choir of statues and watchers began to clap uproariously for their object of adoration.
“Now get back to bowing, fools,” SHIDO cut a nasty glare to the camera, “it’s what you all are used to.”
