Return.

The sunset bathes the greenery in shades of pink and orange. Another day has come and gone in the forgotten land known as the Elysian Fields. The dandelions wave in the cool breeze as does the long, uncut grass. Still yet, there is a cleared path by which to walk amidst the greenery. A lone figure slowly walks that path, calculated in each step. The long black dress complete with black hat and veil the figure dresses in seems to signify mourning, mourning in these lost fields none have walked in what feels like ages. Still yet, the bright pink hair, looking more purple under the veil, shines through with color despite the outfit. She gazes longingly out across the field as she strides.
“They always say that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone. I know it’s a cliché statement but when you’re in it, when you feel it, it becomes so much more than that. Six months ago today, we all went through our first day without Elysium, whether we knew it or not. When we left Albuquerque, we took it for granted. Back to the gym and onto the next city, right? But when we showed up, the doors were locked. What had we done that we were left outside? Too many egos in that company wouldn’t admit it but we were like children during a divorce wondering what we had done wrong to cause this when ultimately, it probably wasn’t us. Logic just doesn’t change that sinking feeling inside, does it? On that day, we realized that that was it. Elysium crumbled and fell, leaving the Summit Series incomplete. SHIDO, Boots, Miguel, and Ryan all looked at their championships, once meaningful but now just decorative pieces of leather and metal. Maybe they kept them. Maybe they didn't. Didn’t matter at that point, did it?”
With a wave of her hand, Alyssa Daniels signals the end of what was.
“Gone.”
Her head lowers in contemplation as she continues walking.
“It’s just a saying. Sure, keep feeding us that. But I felt it. Elysium gave me my big break, but they didn’t have to. They didn’t have to take a chance on this bubbly girl with pink hair and tattoos. There’s no room in this business for someone like that. If you aren’t vicious, cruel, and self-aggrandizing, you won’t last. That’s all I heard in the beginning. But despite all the preconceived notions of what a wrestler should be, Elysium brought me in. And as I fought, they realized that the real fire inside of an individual isn’t just the arrogant belief in oneself. It isn’t just champions, ‘gods,’ and muscle-heads. It’s passion, desire, being willing to work hard when they succeed and harder when they fail. They watched the paradigm shift. Kevin Moss loved that about me because he believed in those same ideals. Then I had to move out of my childhood home. Other companies saw what I did in Elysium and didn’t want to see it all end there. Others gave me a chance but there’s nothing like that first chance.”
Alyssa stops and looks up. Standing at the end of the path is a mausoleum. Her eyes land on the word engraved over the giant closed door leading inside.
She bows her head in respect.
“They say that the Elysian Fields was an afterlife for the chosen, a place for the heroes to rest once their job in the mortal realm was done. I don’t know if we were heroes, or if the job was done, but there wasn’t peace of mind and heart when you left so soon. There was so much left to do.”
She looks up at the door in front of her, a small smile creeping onto her face barely visible through the veil.
“And that’s why we’ve returned.”
She walks up the marble staircase toward the door.
“Rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. Just words once. I know, because I heard the backlash. ‘Give it a rest, Alyssa. It’s never coming back,’ they’d tell me but I kept watching. Maybe they’d be right. Maybe I’d never see it return. But here we are. Samantha Hamilton. F.M. Young. SHIDO. Elina Cartel. Miguel Villalobos. Ryan Gates. Azurine Vebbins. You called and here we stand on these steps again, prepared to go to war in your name. People talk about times of war and times of peace like they are separate moments but for us, that line is lookin’ real blurry. We all went our separate ways when Elysium fell, none of us at peace. Now that you’ve shouted our names into the sky and we answered that call, now there can finally be peace through the return of war. Wars never raged. Scores never settled. We’ve come back to do more than what we’ve ever done before.”
Alyssa removes the veil, her eyes closed as they’re seen clearly for the first time.
“The restless slumber has felt so long but now… Now, we’re wide awake.”
Her eyes open and she grins.
“Now, we even get to test our mettle against new faces. The fearless Talia Areano finally gets to make her Elysium debut after months of waiting, while Salvation’s Executioner ventures off the beaten path to bring his sadistic destruction here. Old grudges will be renewed and new rivalries will begin, but only one person will be the World Champion of Elysium by the night’s end.”
As she steps up to the door, she reaches for the handle engraved within it.
“Elysium. Round two.”
Smile.
“Let’s do this.”
With effort, the door is pulled open. Brilliant white light pours forth from the mausoleum, engulfing everything it touches until nothing else is visible.
Welcome back, Elysium.
