EPISODE XII: SILENT NIGHT
•SINGLES MATCH•
AMANI MSHAMBULIAJI vs. THADDEUS DUKE
The show began with two debuting stars making their way to the ring. Both got victories at Nightfall but in dark matches so...does it really count? No matter, The Sanctum was pumped to see new blood in front of them. Thaddeus Duke offered a hand to Amani Mshambuliaji before the bell and Mshambuliaji accepted it. Filth Murphy questioned this move but Thad Balk loved the show of sportsmanship.
The two locked up and following a push off from Mshambuliaji Duke hit an impressive springboard and put his opponent into the mat with a springboard bulldog. Duke followed that up with a flying double axe handle that caught Mshambuliaji off guard. Duke then went for a third springboard but Mshambuliaji saw it coming and he dropped Duke out of the sky with a straight jab.
Mshambuliaji caught Duke with a running knee lift that shocked Duke but Duke stayed on his feet. Mshambuliaji then hit the ropes and came back with The Damning kick that dropped the young upstart. Mshambuliaji covered but only got two.
The Charm City Striker set Duke up for -- well -- The Charm City Strike. Mshambuliaji rushed Duke but Duke caught Mshambuliaji with the Shellshocked ¾ cutter out of nowhere! Both competitors were down and this was when things got very interesting.
Two figures came through the crowd and slipped into the ring. “What the hell are Enigma Protocol doing out here?” Balk questioned.
Duke got to his feet just in time to walk into Schrodinger’s Cat (3D) from Enigma Protocol. Miguel Villalobos then took hold of Mshambuliaji and with his partner Ryan Gates they planted Mshambuliaji with The Bootstrap Paradox. The referee threw the match out before hightailing it out of the ring himself.
Winner: No Contest
•IN RING•
Enigma Protocol tossed both Amani Mshambuliaji and Thaddeus Duke out of the ring just and were joined in the ring by Isabella Villalobos, who had been lurking at ringside. Unfamiliar music cued up, after a few moments of uncertainty four figures appeared at the top of the ramp; Elysium CEO Gavin Shure, Executive Vice President Ned Thomas, Frontline General Manager Ramona Holiday and Glitches General Manager Volkov. The collective known as The Leadership walked to the ring and entered.Shure took the microphone and the audience showered him with boos which seemed to perplex the CEO. He shook it off and began to speak, “Welcome one and all to the new Elysium, welcome to our world! Tonight we are happy to have revived the Frontline brand and we are jubilant to be back on the Battleground Network! In the ring right now is the new Leadership of Elysium and we plan to erase the mistakes of the past. I have placed Ned Thomas in a position to oversee both brands but Ramona Holiday will be the authority on Frontline. In addition to that, as you have all no doubt seen, Volkov will be the authority on Glitches and thus far he has done an immaculate job.” Shure said “I know hand the microphone to your Frontline General Manager, Ramona Holiday.
“I am not out here this evening to explain why I did what I did at Frontline. If it isn’t obvious to you then you have not being paying attention.” Holiday said, “The reason that Enigma Protocol came out here an interrupted this match this evening is because neither man impressed me enough in the early going to warrant opening this landmark show. I wanted to start Frontline’s return to the Battleground Network with the two men who have carrier Elysium since our return on October 1st.”
The trio of the Villalobos siblings and Gates stepped forward. Holiday acknowledged them with a nod and continued, “It was said in the past that Elysium was to be about the competitors and not the politics. That was never fully realized. But it will be now and we will be providing opportunities to people who deserve it. People like Enigma Protocol. Tonight they entered the arena as a team but in the main event they will fight against Alyssa Daniels as rivals. Tonight the World Championship will be contested between three individuals that truly deserve it.” Holiday said, “Gentlemen, best of luck.”
Gates and Villalobos eyed each other as The Leadership stepped backward and clapped. Filth Murphy said that it was a beautiful thing and should be one hell of match between the two...and Daniels. Thad Balk noted that this entire portion of the show seemed to send a very clear message -- Daniels would not be leaving The Sanctum with the World Championship tonight.
•SINGLES MATCH•
JAKE ARCHER vs. YUUTO TATSUGAMI
The next contest saw “The Greatkeeper” Jake Archer’s return to singles competition against “Dragon Lord” Yuuto Tatsugami. The Sanctum seemed to be behind Tatsugami as he offered his hand to Archer as he has been known to do. Archer just laughed and as he feigned accepting it before throwing a superkick at Tatsugami which the latter was able to block.
Tatsugami went to advance on Archer but Archer pulled the referee in the way and held his body through the ropes. “Back him up!” Archer screamed and Tatsugami did not press the issue, he backed away. Archer slowly re-entered the ring and then shoved the referee into Tatsugami. Archer charged and leap frogged over the referee and caught Tatsugami with a missile dropkick.
Archer marched around the ring, pleased with himself as Filth Murphy sang The Greatkeeper’s praises. Tatsugami got back to his feet and Archer charged him. Archer went to lock up but Tatsugami shoved him forward. Archer went for a Pele kick but Tatusgami stepped back and then pulled Archer into the Spirit of Ryujin.
With Archer rocked, Tatsugami was the picture of focus. Thad Balk noted that in his opinion Tatsugami had one of the biggest upsides of new talent on the Elysium roster. Archer got up to a knee, which is funny because Tatsugami took hold of Archer’s arms and smashed him in the face with his Yotsui knee. Tatsugami covered and secured the three count.
Winner: Yuuto Tatsugami
After the bell Tatsugami knelt beside Archer and shook his hand, but Archer was completely out of it. Tatsugami stood and bowed before the fans in The Sanctum before leaving the ring.
•BACKSTAGE•
Kara Scene smiled and nodded in agreement but Leland Morgan looked reticent about keeping pace with his teammates. Scene and Kapstone walked on, leaving Morgan trailing behind.
•SINGLES MATCH•
MARCUS LEVINE w/ Cassie Sykes vs. TALIA AREANO
One half of the new Tag Team Champions was out next as Marcus LeVine walked down the ramp, trailed by his manager Cassie Sykes. Talia Areano hit the ring alone but was received by the audience in The Sanctum with massive praise.
“The last time these two squared off on October 29th saw Areano come away with the victory. Should she get a victory over the new Tag Team Champion then one would have to believe that she would be in line for a Hybrid Championship match.” Thad Balk said.
The match began with LeVine trying to goad Areano in and -- it worked. Areano rushed The Demon Saint and when LeVine went for a heavy kick Areano slid under him and put him down with a springboard hurricanranna. LeVine rallied back and went to crack Areano with a heel kick but Areano ducked under it. Areano shot LeVine into the corner and ran in with a high flipping dropkick.
Areano begged LeVine to get up and when he did Areano went for the Slice of Heaven shiranui but LeVine countered it and hoisted her up over his shoulder. “This is exactly how their first encounter ended!” Balk noted. LeVine ran forward and looked for a lawn dart but at the last second Areano flipped forward, landed on her feet!
“No way she does this again! No way!” Filth Murphy said.
The Argentinian Angel tried to set LeVine up for the Slice of Heaven but LeVine grabbed the back of her head and smashed it into the top turnbuckle. Areano staggered around like a drunk and walked right into LeVine’s Ash Leveler ddt. LeVine covered and got the three count.
Winner: Marcus LeVine
•BACKSTAGE•
Backstage Kevin Force (of FORCE Security Solutions) followed one of his supervisors to a door that was propped open. The camera panned down to show that a security guard’s body was halfway in and halfway out of the building.
“What the fuck happened here? What does the footage say?” Force asked and his lieutenant informed him that the camera was blinded, the person who attacked the guard was wearing all black and a mask. Force demanded that everyone scour the building for the intruder.
HYBRID CHAMPIONSHIP
•SINGLES MATCH•
F.M. YOUNG vs. AZURINE VEBBINS (c)
Our first title match on Frontline (and fourth overall tonight) saw F.M. Young challenge her ex-wife and new champion Azurine Vebbins. Thad Balk noted that Azurine Vebbins had already defended the championship earlier in the night against Spectre on Glitches. Before either competitor came to the ring “Tear You Apart” cued up and Triad Champion Boots Martin walked down the ramp with her championship in tow. The audience was confused but Martin made her intentions clear when she sat at the announce table and picked up a headset.
"Look, I'm just out here because regardless of what happens in this match, I never lost that belt. Asterisk City, whichever one wins" Martin said.
The challenger and champion then came to the ring but neither seemed to pay attention to Martin at ringside, they were focussed on the task at hand. The bell sounded and they cautiously circled one another. Following a lock up Young forced Vebbins down into a headlock and then a headlock takeover. Young kept Vebbins on the mat with a chin lock.
"Truth is, I consider Young a friend... we talked about teaming up before I found Cross & Darkstar... and I fully expect her to destroy Azzy Dancer here tonight, but either way, that's still my title" Martin said as Young planted Vebbins with a swinging neckbreaker. Young then kept Vebbins on the mat with some big stomps before she ascended to the top rope and nailed Vebbins with the Negasonic Warhead. Young covered but only got a two count.
Young smacked Vebbins in the back of the head at this point and it seemed to stir something in the champion. Vebbins grabbed Young by the throat and tossed her back into a corner. Vebbins followed that up with a running back elbow and then hit a tilt-a-whirl headscissors that put Young on the mat. Vebbins took Young over with a half-nelson suplex and called for the end.
Vebbins went for the Sweetheart Sock Hop but Young countered the knees to the mid-section with the Man-Machine Interface dicus clothesline. Young then climbed to the top rope and nailed the Battery Powered Bombshell. Young covered and got the three count.
Winner: New Hybrid Champion, F.M. Young
"See. That's what happens when you get one woman looking for a fight and another looking for a dancing partner. Forget whatever history these two have, Young is the better athlete." Martin said. Young was presented with the championship and held it high. Young looked down at her ex-wife and then glanced over at Martin for the first time. Young smirked and the scene cut.
•INTERVIEW•
Backstage Yuki Kita stood before the looping Frontline signature with her trusty microphone in hand. She then welcome Jake Archer. The Greatkeeper was holding an ice pack to his forehead and was flanked by Spectre. Kita asked Archer about his return to singles action and his loss to Yuuto Tatsugami. Archer claimed that the loss happened because of the language barrier between himself and Tatsugami. When Kita asked how that made any sense at all the interview was interrupted by both Amani Mshambuliaji and Thaddeus Duke.
“I’m sorry gentlemen, you aren’t scheduled to be interviewed at this time.” Kita said but Mshambuliaji said that he and Duke had something to say. Duke explained that their match earlier was interrupted so they didn’t see any issue with interrupting this interview. Archer stepped forward and explained that as The Greatkeeper, he was happy that they showed up. Archer said that if they really wanted to prove their mettle then they could do so next week on Frontline against himself and his protege Spectre. Mshambuliaji said that they would accept that match and that they would win, then they would proceed to challenge Enigma Protocol and show The Leadership exactly what they could do.
•SPECIAL CHALLENGE MATCH•
ERIK HOLLAND vs. TOMMY KAPSTONE
Our next match was the result of a “Golden Ticket” issued to Static Age by The Leadership in appreciation for their assistance at Nightfall. Tommy Kapstone, looking to prove himself, challenged the first Elysium World Champion and current Tag Team Champion Erik Holland to a match.
To everyone’s surprise Kapstone came to the ring alone and to no one’s surprise, so did Holland. Quickly after the bell Kapstone hit Holland with a chop block but Holland quickly turned around and grabbed Kapstone by the skull. Perhaps in an attempt to crush his head, Holland lifted Kapstone up by the noodle and tossed him across the ring. Kapstone tried to rally back with a charge but Holland caught him with a hard elbow to the head.
Holland stalked the young upstart and when Kapstone scrambled to his feet Holland blasted him with a bicycle kick to the mush. Now feeling pretty confident, Holland kicked Kapstone in the mid-section. Holland butterflied Kapstone’s arms and then planted him with the Chopping Mall shoulder breaker. Holland covered but Kapstone kicked out at two.
“I believe that we can expect Static Age to come down and help Kapstone at any moment.” Thad Balk said.
“Hey! Be nice to Kapstone, he already wrestled earlier tonight on Glitches. If Holland beats him tonight then it is a tainted victory for that idiot.” Filth Murphy added.
The man they call Gilgamesh got Kapstone up and then smashed him with the Brainscan. Holland covered again and again Kapstone was able to kick out. Holland lifted Kapstone up to a vertical base and tried to set him up for the Toxic Avenger but Kapstone slipped behind Holland and then caught him with the Flashbang Kick!
For the first time in the contest Holland was down so Kapstone jumped on him. Kapstone trapped Holland’s arm and started hitting him with vicious Deathbolt elbows to the collarbone. After a half dozen Kapstone got Holland up and tried to set him up for the Ghostmaker but Holland was too heavy. Holland reversed it into The Toxic Avenger but Holland’s collarbone was too damaged for him to make the cover right away.
“And there it is. Jesus.” Balk said as Leland Morgan came running down the ramp. Holland got up and saw Morgan coming. Morgan hopped up on the apron and Holland nailed Morgan with The Babysitter’s Dead off of the apron. As the referee chastised Morgan from the ring, Kara Scene slid in behind Holland, coming from the crowd.
Holland turned around and was too late trying to block the Rules of Attraction kick from Scene. Holland dropped and Scene slipped out of the ring undetected by the referee. Kapstone climbed to the top rope and hit a moonsault knee bomb on Holland, covering him for the three and getting the upset victory!
Winner: Tommy Kapstone
Following the bell, Static Age regrouped on the outside of the ring and celebrated. Holland was on his stomach, staring at the trio like he wanted to eat their children before the scene cut.
•LOCKER ROOM•
Alyssa Daniels was shown and The Sanctum popped pretty fucking hard for the World Champion. She was lacing up her boots and the World Championship was shown sitting on a bench behind her. A stage hand then walked into frame and handed Daniels a piece of paper.
Daniels reticently accepted the note and then read it. She flashed a smile and then looked up at the stage hand and asked who gave this to him. The stage hand just shrugged and walked away. Daniels continued to smile. The Heart of Infinity tightened her laces before taking hold of her title and heading off to war.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
•ELIMINATION 3-WAY DANCE•
MIGUEL VILLALOBOS w/ Isabella Villalobos vs. RYAN GATES vs. ALYSSA DANIELS ©
Main event time you motherfuckers. Miguel Villalobos came out flanked by his sister and Ryan Gates came out separately. When Gates reached the ring The Sanctum unleashed a roar of boos that made it seem like Satan himself was in the ring. The opposite occurred when The Heart of Infinity marched the ring, title in tow. Daniels entered the ring and kept her eyes darting back and forth between her opponents.
“Not that it matters, because this is going to be a mugging regardless but this match is no disqualification.” Thad Balk said in a defeated tone.
The bell sounded and Daniels charged Gates. Daniels smashed Gates with a spinning heel kick that send him over the top rope to the floor. Villalobos tried to come after Daniels but she hit him with one as well. Daniels got Villalobos up and went for the Amnesia early but Villalobos held her up and sat her on the top rope. Daniels kicked Villalobos in the face which sent him staggered and Daniels came off of the top rope with a flying Livewire lariat.
On the outside Gates decided that now was as good a time as ever to utilize the no disqualification stipulation. Gates went under the ring and pulled out a steel chair. Didn’t seem to fucking matter because a man in a balaclava and a black hoodie jumped the barricade. That man smashed Gates in the back of the head with a superkick and then pulled him into a Twist of Fate.
“What the fuck is this shit?” Murphy asked and quickly got his answer. The man pulled off his mask to reveal Gabe Shelley! The Sanctum came unglued as Shelley rolled Gates into the ring. Daniels flashed him a smile and planted Gates with Amnesia and covered him for three.
Eliminated: Ryan Gates
Villalobos almost broke up the pin but was a second too late. Balk exclaimed, “We we now have an even playing field thanks to Gabe Shelley!” On the outside of the ring Isabella confronted Shelley and Shelley simply shrugged. Isabella slapped Shelley in the face and then Gates came through the ropes with a suicide dive, taking Shelley out.
In the ring Villalobos took Daniels over with a t-bone suplex. Villalobos was relentless as he lifted Daniels up to her feet by the throat and then tried to drive her through the mat with the Ay Dios Mio chokebomb. Villalobos covered but Daniels kicked out at two.
Villalobos started stomping on the side of Daniels’ head. Villalobos then moved to Daniels knee that was injured in her match last week at Nightfall. Villalobos started mercilessly stomping on Daniels’ knee. Villalobos got Daniels up and sent her into the corner so hard that she hit it chest first and staggered backward right into a chop block to the knee from Villalobos.
“This may be the most vicious that we’ve ever seen Miguel Villalobos,” Balk said “Without his safety net of Ryan Gates, Villalobos needs to win or he may not get another chance at the World Title any time soon. Then again, The Leadership seems to love him.”
Villalobos shot Daniels hard into the corner again and this time he lifted her up onto the top rope, facing the audience. Villalobos tried to climb up top with her but Daniels tossed an elbow back that knocked him off of the top rope. Daniels went for a moonsault to a standing Villalobos but he moved. Daniels landed on her feet but tweaked her knee further.
Los Lobo Loco tried to rush Daniels but she caught him with Amnesia out of nowhere! Villalobos had enough left to roll out of the ring which drew the ire of The Sanctum. Daniels took the time to recover and on the outside we saw Gates and Shelley still battling up the ramp. They left the chair behind and Isabella found it.
“This is mayhem out here tonight.” Balk said.
Daniels went to exit the ring to retrieve Villalobos but Isabella came out of nowhere with the chair and smashed Daniels in the head with it. Villalobos came back to life and entered the ring. Daniels staggered back to her feet but between her now busted open forehead and her bad knee, she was rocked. Villalobos advanced and Daniels went for Amneisa but Villalobos held her, tossed her up and dropped her with La Mordida del Lobo and as he brought Daniels down, Isabella slid the chair in just underneath them. Daniels was driven into the chair and Villalobos covered for the three count.
Winner: New World Champion, Miguel Villalobos
The Sanctum was silent. They did not boo. They were silent. Isabella entered the ring with the championship and handed it to her brother before embracing him. The Villalobos siblings stood overtop of Daniels and The Sanctum remained silent.
