”SHIDO … everything I’m about to say isn’t because I want to do this, but I have to. And in truth? This has been bothering me for a very, very long while.”
Courtesy of a night vision mode activated on the recorder, we can see The Titaness is somewhere outside. The area is covered with many trees surrounding her. A bit of illumination is provided by the moon; not too much, but enough to help better see Samantha Hamilton.
The first thing to note is her outfit which is anything but typical.
Before we go into this war, I wanted to have this chance to speak with you. SHIDO … my turn to brutally ask you something. Why did you really take me under your wing?”
Sam’s arms cross over her chest as she waits. Almost like she could hear anything SHIDO may or may not reply with.
”When Elysium shut down, you disappeared for quite some time. Only when Fight Union opened up did you join me and quite a few others in joining. But then that closed and …”
The Titaness snaps her fingers.
”You vanished back to your own realm or whatever. You all but gave up fighting. Never once did you bother trying to speak to me. You basically cast me aside. Left me to die even, with what few close calls I have actually had. Did you think I wasn’t serious?!”
Sam’s fists tightly clench as they lower back to her sides.
”You thought once I was questioning your honor. But now .. it’s my turn to ask if that is what you are doing?! WHO DO YOU TAKE ME FOR?! Some … pawn?! Some tool?!”
A look of disgust crosses her face as a mingled snarl and growl passes her lips.
”I refuse to be treated as such! There is one thing that has kept me from officially turning my back on you. And that … is because I try to avoid mimicking personality traits I dislike. One includes making assumptions. So …”
Sam reaches down and pulls out an axe that had been secured in a belt. She holds it towards the screen as a makeshift pointer.
”Just tell me straight to my face if my loyalty has been for nothing! Because if that’s the case .. then I will cut ties! Will I like it? No! Absolutely not! But I will do it! I’ve already been used and manipulated in the past! I’m not letting anyone repeat that, no matter who they may or may not be!”
Samantha briefly bites onto her lower lip before resuming speaking.
”Among all the people participating in this tournament, I thought you would have best understood a certain concept. You insisted we should give up hope? Blasphemy! Just as light and dark can’t exist without one another, it applies to hope and despair!”
Her grip on the axe tightens, her knuckles now a bit white.
”I’m not going to speak for the others, but if I had given up hope, I never would have even improved! Not just during the Summit Series, but afterwards! For you to tell us all to give up hope … is an INSULT! And I will definitely not accept that!
“Maybe I didn’t start out as a good one, but now? I’m a goddamn fighter, a warrior, a Titaness and as of recently?! A Shieldmaiden! Literally and proverbially! I don’t care who I’m fighting; never once have I backed down. And should we meet in the War of Attrition? That’ll still apply. I’ll come at you with every bit of force and strength I have.”
Sam gestures to herself, putting the axe away.
”If you deem everything I’m declaring an act of treason?”
She takes a deep breath before firmly nodding.
”So be it! I will gladly commit such an act if that’s how you interpret it!”
Out from behind the trees, nine robed figures walk out and slowly walk towards Samantha. She doesn’t run, indicating she knows perfectly well who these people are. No verbal hints are given on who they are.
What they’re doing, however, starts becoming obvious. Slowly but surely.
First, Sam turns her right hand so the palm is facing open and open.
A dagger is pulled out and pulled across her palm.
The Titaness winces lowly, but otherwise remains still.
One by one, the figures walk up, put some of Samantha’s blood on their finger, and draw a line across her cheeks. When they finish, there are four on each side of her face, with a ninth going across her forehead.
”War .. what’s it good for?”
A knowing smirk crosses her face.
”Actually, more than we give credit for, particularly when said frays are held in the ring. Hope will not be the only thing fueling me on. Ambition, an adrenaline rush, and desire to prove myself will help guide me to victory. I promise, I don’t intend to be stopped by anyone, no matter who I’m pitted against.
“SHIDO … everyone. I’ll see you all soon enough. And SHIDO? Prepare for a coup. Because it is coming, whether you like it or not.”
Sam plus all nine other figures raise their arms up in unison. The camera lingers on them for a few seconds before fading out.
