:: POST FRONTLINE V DISCUSSION ::
- I know I missed this after the last show but writing that sumbitch was arduous and I didn't really have much to say. Now two weeks later I have some shit to discuss.
- The Tag Team Grand Prix was originally supposed to be bigger but with F.M. Young winning the Iron Title, W.T.F. and Declan Black never posting intro promos etc. I just decided to make the finals for the next show that we can move on. I am a huge fan of Tag Team wrestling and the Tag Titles are going to be a focal point for us going forward. They will be defended on the same schedule as the World Title, every other show.
- That being said I am very happy with this last show. I think all in all it is the most complete show that we've done so far. Everything flowed nicely and the matches were all very different. I attest that to Nick Two's help with match writing as well as the two tag team matches. It's easier to have variety match to match when they vary in type. Very pleased.
- I have been keeping updated rankings since our first show and I think that I will post them every three months so everyone can see where they rank in that particular quarter. They include everyone who has been in a match in Elysium. (Cliff Casino and Filth Murphy included).
- Following Frontline: Nightfall we will take a week off before I post another card. It's both for the holidays and to give us all an opportunity to recharge. In that time I will do a membership drive with some sort of campaign to try and bring new people in. Perhaps a battle royal for new signees only, winner gets a Hybrid Title shot or something. I am open to suggestions.
- After Frontline: Nightfall I am going to post my notes for the results and you can see what my thought process is in approaching the shows. They are literally hand written so get ready for that. I'd post these ones but they are all over the place and impossible for anyone but me to follow.
:: THE BIG TOPIC ::
The biggest thing that I wanted to discuss this week is storylines. Like I said earlier, this was our strongest show yet in terms of continuity. While we are a promo based federation, storylines have a big effect on the way things go. Because that makes things interesting. If it was just competition based then it would not be wrestling IMHO. This last show was the closest that we have come to my initial vision for the federation.I am going to take you folks through the way that I have always played the game. I am not saying that you need to do it this way nor will you be penalized for not doing things this way. I have just found that I have had the best experienced and fully realized my characters by doing the following. I can not stress enough that you DO NOT have to follow this method, this is just my personal mode of thinking. Obviously I augment this template all the time and it's not rigidly followed but I wanted to give you all an insight into how I judge promos. (For the benefit of clarity I will use Finale as the example.)
PROMO #1
1. What happened to Finale last week?
2. How does he feel about it?
3. What's happening to him this week?
4. How is he going to deal with it?
5. Why is it going to go the way he wants it?
I answer those questions and then I go back and edit the promo. All the while I make sure that whatever he says both backs up the character that I have created and is said in his own unique fashion. If each paragraph of my promo does not really punch the point with a great line then I lose it. Write, edit, edit again, edit one more time. Post.
PROMO #2
1. What did Finale's opponent(s) say? (Summarize)
2. Is it true?
3. If not; why? If so; why doesn't it matter?
4. What faults does the opponent possess? What weaknesses (losses, beat downs etc.) can Finale expose?
5. What is a guaruntee that Finale can make that win or lose he can stand on after?*
*What I mean to say is, if you lose and you guaranteed a win then you have to make up a reason for that loss. But if you say "I am going to try and break your fucking arm." and then in the results you try to break that person's arm, well even if you lose you did what you said you were going to do. A perfect example of this was last week Sam Hamilton said that Adam Stryker would not make her tap and although she lost, she did not lose by submission. Now she has a leg to stand on.
SEGMENT
1. What is a unique location/scenario in which this can take place? Everyone can just be backstage or in the ring but the best segments are the most inventive ones. If you are going to make it in a common area, then make the situation unique.
2. What do I have to say that hasn't already been said? and/or How am I moving a current storyline forward?
3. Is there someone that would make sense to have in this segment with my character? Would that add to it?
4. What changes from the beginning of the segment to the end? If there is no change then why am I doing it?
- That's all for now. I just wanted to lay this out so we could discuss this and discuss the development of storylines. I truly believe that a good angle not only makes the federation better but it helps people write more engaging promos. That is not to say that the work here has not been stellar so please do not think that.
That being said... discuss.
