"Some of you may know or have heard of me, even if by name. I can fairly guess a few of you whom may have hoped I'd never come here. And to you who fit under that category? Well ... heh. Too bad."
Though it's relatively dark, it's not impossible to make out the figure of Joseph "Orion" Hunter. He's standing ...though not without some help in the form of crutches.
"Don't worry. By the time the third episode rolls around, these will be gone. For those who have yet to realize who I am or why my voice may sound somewhat familiar ... I started out as Sam's recorder. Not to say I don't still do that. Now I accompany her to fights and partake in some myself."
A low scoff is heard before Orion continues.
"I saw that petty tweet from you a while back, SHIDO. I knew the moment I took up Puroresu that officially putting myself at risk for getting hurt would be a possibility. But you know what? Not one day goes by I regret beginning my journey. The only thing I lament was not starting and fighting with Sam much, much sooner."
Another scoff, this one joined with a low sigh.
"I've been with her for seven years. Sad it took me so long."
Despite his words, a smile crosses his face.
"But better late than never. Mile High was a good experience while it lasted. But I wasn't ready to stop. Unfortunately, between the man who stabbed me trying to make that become a reality thinking otherwise and the company soon shutting down after my last fight ... I had to.
"A lot of you will probably say similar things the opponents I did face before Mile High shut down. I don't look like much. I know I don't. But simultaneously, that's what is going to make it easier to snipe those of you foolish enough to keep such a mindset. Proverbially, of course, but ... you all probably figured that part out."
Joseph briefly pauses speaking before continuing after a minute.
"I know Sam has mentioned she's become a Shieldmaiden. I've joined the male counterpart group myself; the Chrome Dragons. Anyone who wants to guess I'm fighting on their behalf is only partially correct. Same with coming to the Elysian Fields to fight for Sam. It's more with than for. though I won't deny that was originally why I began fighting. She's more than capable of fighting her own battles. I'm primarily here for one person; me, myself, and I."
Another moment of hesitation before Orion resumes.
"This isn't to say I won't grasp opportunities for belts. But they really are more bonuses. I do have ambition. But while I work on proving my worth and skills to the roster, there's someone I need to prove myself to first that's a bit more important."
He turns his right thumb and points at himself.
"Me. For far too long, I was the 'silent observer'. I already let another person I dearly loved down ... and the cost was a very high one."
Orion now nods to the tombstone behind him, revealing - or at least hinting - whom he may be speaking about.
"I'm not repeating certain mistakes I've already made. Never again. Sam's done far too much for me as it is. It's time for me to repay her, to show my gratefulness. As I've said before, that's not the only reason I'm coming over. But it 's a major and significant reason all the same.
"For some of you, this may sound foolish."
Joseph shrugs.
"Each to their own. But for anyone who has or has had someone they care about? You'll understand when I say the right reasons can make a person change. They agree to do things they never would have considered participating in before. For me, that includes violence; or at least something that tends to become that way. And with this path, injuries of varying degrees are inevitable.
"But that's fine. I'm not afraid. I'm done with that. The old me who used to be horrified of putting up a physical fight is long dead. Buried in there for all I know and care. With the demise of the old me came a new, determined man. One with something to prove.
"My brothers-in-arms saw this new side and gave me the nickname Orion. I have embraced and accepted it, because I have been able to succeed in showing I can hunt. Better than anyone would assume. Come Episode Three ... I'll better show you all exactly what I mean. Until then ... I'll be watching while waiting."
As Joseph moves away, we finally see the name engraved on the tomb.
The feed lingers a bit longer on the grave before cutting out.
