Gimmick:
Rob Sharpe is one tough son of a bitch. Sure, it’s easy to say that about somebody in professional wrestling, but Sharpe takes it to another level.
Starting his career in 1997, the Philadelphia native, unsurprisingly, took to the hardcore style like a fish to water, and developed a name for himself in long-gone companies like IWCW, NMW, and even the legendary NWC. His career has had some stumbling blocks along the way, mostly brought on by fights with mental illness, but he’s managed to hold on. Outside of wrestling, he has proven a savvy businessman with success in restaurant franchising and real estate, and is fond of bolstering (or risking) his wealth with sports betting.
He came back to wrestling in 2017 under local promotion Warzone Ultraviolent Wrestling, where he proved he could still hold his own in the ring, going undefeated in the tournament to crown the company’s inaugural champion before it abruptly closed. On the day Warzone closed, he was scheduled to face the notorious Erik Holland; while the match never happened, Holland, impressed with Sharpe’s toughness and willingness to fight anyone without reservations, extended an invitation to join his Badd Breed, an invitation Sharpe humbly accepted.
From there, Sharpe went to Japan, working with Death Trip Wrestling, where he debuted against the infamous Teiji Shintaro, who is best described as a Japanese garbage wrestling reincarnation of GG Allin. Rather than express discomfort or attempt to get out of the match by any means, Sharpe relished the chance, and while he didn’t win the match, he earned the respect of the diehards of DTW. Since then, he has held the company’s Eternal Warfare Championship five times, and competed in the final to crown sister company Iron Japan Pro Wrestling’s inaugural Death Crown Champion.
While he has enjoyed his time in Japan, he has expressed a desire to compete closer to home as well. And so, our hero takes his story to Toronto.
Rob Sharpe is an illustration of the blue-collar toughness associated with his hometown of Philadelphia. He’s also actually a really cheery guy for someone who has been in the business and seen as much as he has, and he is known as one of the friendliest people in the sport. In the ring, though, he is all business. At age 43, he knows he can’t match most of his opponents’ athleticism, but he’s still a tough piece of steak, and what he lacks in finesse he makes up for with the fact that he still hits like a truck. That toughness and fighting spirit has made him an integral part of the Badd Breed, and he represents his crew wherever and whenever possible.
Fighting Style: Past-his-prime brawler type who has a long, brutal history with hardcore/deathmatch style, but also has enough actual wrestling skill to hold his own in a standard match.
Professional Resemblance: (List three real wrestlers that your character wrestles like.)
1. Late-career Steve Austin
2. Necro Butcher
3. Mick Foley
4. Raven
Common Moves: (Please list at least 10 and a max of 20.)
1. Wild brawling (jabs, forearms, haymakers, chops, stomps, headbutts, the like. Also, Sharpe is a southpaw.)
2. DDT (Sharpe tends to really drive the opponent down to the mat with his version; comparable to The Rock’s when he does it without the floatover. Impact over smoothness.)
3. Snap scoop powerslam
4. Falling neckbreaker
5. Camel clutch with cross face forearms
6. Release Northern Lights Suplex
7. Vertical suplex/superplex
8. Knee clip
9. Rolling elbow
10. Sit out powerbomb
Signature Moves: (Please list at least 1 and a max of 5)
1. The Citywide Special (corner clothesline >>> bulldog out of the corner. Raven used this move often.)
2. The Nefarious Device (Super Dragon-style surfboard curb stomp)
3. The Dawkins Suplex (a hardway German suplex usually initiated by Sharpe grabbing a rushing opponent by the waist, or him running to an opponent and wrapping around him. Named after Pro Football Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins, who famously utilized this as a tackle during his career.)
4. Slingshot catapult. Rob likes to use this with his opponent’s head/neck under the bottom rope, especially if those ropes are barbed wire.
5. Kitchen sink (either a running knee to the gut, or a standing knee to the gut of an oncoming opponent; Sharpe’s preferred set up for the Sharpe Turn)
Finishing Moves: (Please list at least 1 and a max of 2)
1. The Sharpe Turn (Angle Slam)
